I am in the market for a new cheap SUV. I need some help deciding on one to pick for a car enthusiast.
I want to spend somewhere between $18-$25k.
SUV must be 4WD/AWD (What is the point of a front wheel drive SUV?!)
...so...
GO!

The Jeeps that aren't wranglers all come with 5 speeds. The Compass and Liberty are under 20k new with 4wd and manuals.

Trust me, you do NOT want a Compass or Patriot. Terrible cars.

Don't forget the xt. Also they come in manuals...

Do it like I did, buy this and then update the brakes and exhaust.

Still some of the cheapest new SUVs on the market. Show me 4wd and a 5 speed new for Under 17k.

Last generation 4Runner. Reliable and capable. And at least with my generation, relatively fun to drive even on the road.

Tahoe/Yukon
There's really nothing about them that'll spark any excitement in an enthusiast, but they're a damn good SUV.
...Oooor if you want something that's fun to drive and can seat 5 and a good amount of stuff, a 2008+ Vue Redline AWD would do nicely.

Forester? Biggest SUV you can get for the money

This response is so you

You won't but you also won't find a worse SUV under $30k.

Not going to argue with that.

The Tahoe is a great SUV and the Vue is fun and practical dammit!

I got some good options:
Nissan Juke Stick
Volkswagen Tiguan Stick
Mazda CX-5 Stick
If you want more space, then the Journey with the V6 and AWD
Or, if ou just want something great, get a wagon.

Yeah, yeah, and the Torrent GXP is sporty. :p Just Kidding!
They are good SUVs, and unfortunatley, the Journey isnt beating the minivan. In other words, Chrysler Town and Country is my mothers #1 option....For now.

CX-5. Game Over.

Bleh sliding doors and really weird shifter and minivan and bleeeeeeh.

I thought 4Runner but they're more than I thought. An FJ Cruiser is a bit out of the range you gave but not much. You could probably talk it into that range.

It'll be fine as long as this is still available.
Plus rear air and Pentastar.
But you can't get the big UConnect screen.
![]() 07/07/2014 at 21:37 |

Haha yeah, Triple screens. I would put the trio of indiana jones movies, One in each TV.
I dont know any other three movie series.

Mazda CX-7. 244 turbocharged horsepower. Great handling for a crossover. Easiy found for under $20k. I just bought a loaded one with 36k miles with a 7 year bumper to bumper warranty for $19k.
